Hongqi’s First Hardcore Off-Roader Revealed Ahead of Beijing Auto Show with 620 kW Power

Ahead of the 2026 Beijing Auto Show, Hongqi has unveiled its first-ever hardcore off-road SUV during a pre-show preview. The production version of the Hongqi Off-Road SUV was spotted near the exhibition venue, showcasing an impressive combination of luxury, power, and advanced electrification.

Design Inspired by Traditional Chinese Architecture

The production model closely follows the previously revealed concept car, incorporating design elements inspired by traditional Chinese “mortise and tenon” architecture. This gives the SUV a unique identity that blends cultural heritage with modern automotive design.

At the front, a bold grille creates a fortress-like presence, while Hongqi’s signature red emblem runs along the central axis of the hood, reinforcing its premium positioning.

Although the test vehicle was partially camouflaged, its imposing size is evident:

  • Length: 5,135 mm
  • Width: 2,050 mm
  • Height: 1,950 mm
  • Wheelbase: 2,900 mm

The model is equipped with all-terrain tires and a rear-mounted spare wheel, underlining its off-road capabilities. Despite its rugged nature, the SUV will also feature a roof-mounted LiDAR system, enabling advanced driver assistance functions such as highway and urban navigation.

There are also reports that a modified version, developed in collaboration with a tuning partner, may debut during the show.

Body-on-Frame Platform and Extreme Performance

Unlike many modern SUVs, this Hongqi model adopts a body-on-frame construction, making it a true off-road machine designed for demanding terrain.

Under the hood, it features a 2.0T range-extender system paired with four electric motors, delivering extraordinary performance figures:

  • Total power: 620 kW
  • Total torque: 1,320 Nm
  • 0–100 km/h acceleration: 4.5 seconds

The vehicle also comes equipped with mechanical differential locks on both front and rear axles, significantly enhancing off-road capability.

Range and Electrification

Despite its focus on performance, the SUV offers impressive efficiency:

  • Pure electric range (CLTC): 280 km
  • Total combined range: 1,350 km

This setup allows drivers to enjoy both electric driving for daily use and extended range for long-distance adventures.

Conclusion

With its combination of traditional design inspiration, cutting-edge electrified powertrain, and true off-road hardware, Hongqi’s first hardcore SUV marks a bold step into the luxury off-road segment. It not only competes with established global players but also highlights the rapid evolution of Chinese automakers in high-performance and premium niches.
