On June 11, 2026, Xiaomi released a demonstration video on its official Weibo account showcasing a brand-new home charging robotic arm designed for electric vehicles. The device connects directly to the car and can automatically plug in and unplug the charging connector, allowing the entire charging session to run without any manual intervention. The robotic arm and the charging unit are housed together in a single compact enclosure just 152mm wide, making it suitable for installation even in narrow parking spaces.

Solving a Common Pain Point for Home EV Charging

Most home charging stations currently on the market are wall-mounted units that require drivers to manually plug in the charging gun before charging and unplug it once the battery is full — a process many users find tedious. Xiaomi’s new home charging robotic arm directly addresses this inconvenience by automating the entire process.

Robotic Charging Arms: Not a New Concept, But a New Approach

Robotic charging arms aren’t entirely new to the Chinese EV market. Both Li Auto and Huawei’s Hongmeng Zhixing (Harmony Intelligent Mobility) have already deployed similar technology at their self-built charging stations.

Hongmeng Zhixing’s robotic charging arm is a large, ground-mounted unit. Li Auto, on the other hand, uses a robotic arm separated from the charging post itself, moving along an overhead rail system to serve multiple parking spots — automatically grabbing the charging connector to power vehicles in different bays. This design helps keep construction costs lower compared to fixed installations.

What Makes Xiaomi’s Home Charging Arm Different

Xiaomi’s newly unveiled charging robot brings several standout features to the home charging segment:

  • Compact, ultra-slim design – At just 152mm wide, the unit can be installed in virtually any private parking space, including tight spots that would rule out bulkier commercial systems.
  • Vehicle-to-charger communication – For EVs equipped with a powered charging port cover, the robotic arm can communicate with the vehicle to automatically open and close the cover, then insert the charging plug — eliminating manual steps entirely.
  • Deep integration with Xiaomi’s smart ecosystem – Thanks to Xiaomi’s “human-car-home” connected ecosystem, charging data flows seamlessly across devices. For example, the Xiao AI smart speaker can announce charging status updates, while smartphones, smart TVs, and tablets can be used to remotely control and monitor the charger.

A Step Toward Fully Automated, Ecosystem-Integrated EV Charging

Beyond simply automating the plug-in and unplug process, Xiaomi’s home charging robotic arm represents another step in weaving EV charging into its broader smart-device ecosystem. One open question remains: will this robotic charging arm be exclusive to Xiaomi-branded vehicles, or will it support cross-brand compatibility with EVs from other manufacturers? More details are expected as Xiaomi continues to roll out information on the product.
