FAW Hongqi has officially confirmed the name of its first dedicated off-road SUV: the Hongqi G919. The naming carries deliberate symbolism — “G” stands for the backbone of China’s national car heritage; the first “9” signals flagship positioning and premium craftsmanship; “1” represents flowing performance and driving experience; and the second “9” conveys comprehensive, long-term ownership service.

The G919 made its public debut at the Beijing Auto Show earlier this year and is expected to go on sale in the second half of 2026.

Design Hongqi G919: Imposing and Intentional

The G919’s appearance leaves no room for ambiguity about its intentions. A large vertical chrome grille dominates the front fascia, flanked by retro-styled rectangular full-LED headlights. The hood features sharp, muscular character lines that complement the upright, squared-off body — a deliberate nod to classic body-on-frame SUV proportions while maintaining Hongqi’s signature sense of authority and occasion. The production version measures 5,135 × 2,050 × 1,950 mm with a 2,900 mm wheelbase — a substantial footprint by any measure.

The G919 comes factory-equipped with a full suite of off-road hardware as standard: a high-strength front bumper, dual tow hooks, a heavy-duty roof platform, spotlights, a rear-mounted storage “pack,” and all-terrain AT tires. A LiDAR sensor is integrated into the roofline to support advanced intelligent driving functions — including precision sensing and assisted control in off-road scenarios.

Powertrain Hongqi G919: Four Motors, 620 kW, Mechanical Lockers

Under the body-on-frame structure, the G919 runs a 2.0T extended-range system driving a four-motor electric powertrain. Combined output is 620 kW and 1,320 Nm of torque, with a 0–100 km/h sprint time of 4.5 seconds — quick for a vehicle of this size and purpose. Pure-electric range on the CLTC cycle is 280 km, with a combined range of 1,350 km. Air suspension is fitted as standard, and both front and rear axles get mechanical locking differentials — a serious capability statement for a production vehicle.
