Denza N9 Flash Charge Edition Goes on Sale: Gen-2 Blade Battery, 420 km EV Range, and 680 kW Triple-Motor Performance
BYD‘s premium Denza brand has officially launched the upgraded N9 Flash Charge Edition, bringing a significant powertrain overhaul and faster charging infrastructure to one of China’s most ambitious luxury SUVs. Three variants are available, priced from 409,800 to 469,800 yuan ($56,400–$64,600).

The N9 Flash Charge Edition debuted on May 18, 2026, marking a meaningful step forward for the model. The headline upgrade is the integration of BYD’s second-generation Blade Battery paired with proprietary flash-charging technology, pushing pure-electric CLTC range from the previous figure up to 420 km. Denza says the brand’s fast-charging network will expand aggressively by the end of 2026, with station coverage reaching within 3 km in Tier-1 and Tier-2 cities, 5 km in Tier-3 and Tier-4 cities, and 6 km in Tier-5 and Tier-6 cities.
Design: Familiar Silhouette, Premium New Touches
Visually, the Flash Charge Edition stays true to the existing N9’s aesthetic. A closed front grille pairs with dual-layer LED headlight clusters to create a distinctive face, while new 22-inch mirror-forged alloy wheels add a sharper luxury edge. The SUV’s footprint remains substantial: 5,258 mm long, 2,030 mm wide, and 1,830 mm tall, riding on a 3,125 mm wheelbase — dimensions that put it firmly in full-size luxury SUV territory.

Interior: Three Screens, 50-Inch HUD, and AI Cabin
Step inside and the N9 Flash Charge Edition makes an immediate impression. The dashboard is dominated by a 17.3-inch central touchscreen flanked by a 13.2-inch front-passenger entertainment display and a 13.2-inch instrument cluster. Above the windshield, a class-leading 50-inch head-up display projects navigation and driving data at scale.

Material quality has been upgraded across the board — real wood trim panels, metal control buttons, and an Alcantara headliner replace lesser materials, while diamond-quilted leather seating reinforces the premium positioning. The cabin also gains a next-generation AI smart cockpit system with multiple magnetic attachment points for accessory expansion. Driver-assistance duties are handled by Denza’s Eye of God 5.0 (天神之眼 5.0) advanced driving system.

Powertrain: 2.0T PHEV + Three Electric Motors, 3.7-Second Sprint
The Flash Charge Edition uses a plug-in hybrid architecture anchored by a 2.0T turbocharged petrol engine producing 207 hp, combined with a three-motor electric system. The front motor delivers 200 kW, while each rear motor produces 240 kW — giving a combined system output of 680 kW. The result: a 0–100 km/h time of 3.7 seconds for a vehicle of this size and weight.
Total range is equally impressive. The battery-only CLTC figure stands at 420 km, while the combined petrol-electric range reaches 1,520 km — making long-distance trips genuinely effortless.

Technology: Crab Walk, Zero-Radius Turns, and Active Torque Vectoring
Perhaps the most technically ambitious aspect of the N9 Flash Charge Edition is its e³ (Yi San Fang) multi-motor platform, which enables each motor to drive and brake independently. This is complemented by BYD’s Yunchen-A (云辇-A) adaptive suspension system. Together, the two technologies unlock a suite of capabilities rarely seen outside of purpose-built performance vehicles:
- Minimum turning radius of 4.65 metres — exceptional for a vehicle of this length
- Compass turn (pivot spin) — zero-radius U-turn using opposing wheel torques
- e³ self-parking mode — precision low-speed maneuvering assisted by independent motor control
- 15° intelligent crab walk — lateral diagonal movement for tight parking scenarios
- Low-grip surface stability control
- High-speed blowout stabilisation
- VMC (Vehicle Motion Control) — coordinated torque management across all three motors
Rear-axle dual-motor independent steering spans ±20°, giving the N9 a dynamic agility that belies its full-size dimensions.
Verdict
The Denza N9 Flash Charge Edition raises the bar in China’s increasingly competitive luxury PHEV SUV segment. With a second-generation Blade Battery, 1,520 km total range, 680 kW of combined output, and an expanding flash-charge network, it addresses the practical concerns that once shadowed large electric SUVs. At 409,800–469,800 yuan ($56,400–$64,600), it targets buyers who want flagship performance without choosing between a combustion engine and a charging cable.
